Read-In VI on June 1

Join us for Read-In VI on June 1
Schedule
Schedule
- 5:00 pm Read-In
The read-in is open to the public. Supporters are encouraged to attend, bring a favorite book, and take part in a peaceful, visible demonstration of support for the library before the commissioners’ meeting begins. If you have a "Read Free NC" pin, please wear it to show your support. We plan to have a few on hand for anyone who needs one. Before the meeting, attendees can also sign up to share during the public comment portion how libraries and reading have influenced their lives. - 6:00 pm Commissioners' Meeting
We urge you to sign up for public comment before the meeting starts, and speak in support of our library. We've heard a rumor that the new Library Board of Trustees will be appointed at this meeting. Please sign up and let the commissioners know that you expect and insist that any new Board of Trustee members adhere to the First Amendment and follow the guidelines set forth by the American Library Association when reviewing book challenges. Everyone deserves the freedom to read and choose books they can relate to.
We were honored to have celebrated NC authors Jaki Shelton Green, Jill McCorkle, and Joseph Bathanti join us at the May Read-In. Although they stayed for the commissioners' meeting and signed up to speak during public comment, Chair Frye ended the unusually interactive public comment period before they had a chance to speak. Our authors had long drives home, and had to leave before public comment reopened at the end of the meeting. But they graciously allowed us to interview them before the meeting started. Keep an eye on your email for these videos and updates on next month's Read-In. In the meantime, you can view Joseph Bathanti's remarks from the April Commissioners' Meeting here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv2SD5dMfZU
