Petition for Diverse Books: Embracing Inclusion and Empathy
I initiated this petition because, I found a deep connection with the characters from the book COOLIES, seeing aspects of myself and my family within their stories. The news of COOLIES and many other classic books being banned left me feeling shocked and disappointed.
Ignorance and fear of the unfamiliar drive discrimination, which is why we urgently need diverse books in all schools and libraries nationwide.
Presently, book bans are affecting at least 32 states, including Florida, Texas, Missouri, South Carolina, and Utah.
With this petition, I aim to gather signatures to present to state and local decision-makers, hoping to appeal to all concerned, including conservative parent groups. I propose the formation of a nonpartisan committee to review the books in question and reconsider their bans.

COOLIES is one of the incredible award-winning books, just like The Diary of a Young Girl, Of Mice and Men, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Gender Queer, The Handmaid's Tale, The Color Purple, The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm, Beloved, The Bluest Eye, I Am Jazz, Lord of the Flies, and many more classic books that have sadly been put on the banned books list.
